Freight Charges
What is Demurrage?
A penalty charge for keeping a container at the port beyond free time.
Demurrage is a charge the carrier levies when a full container stays inside the port or terminal beyond the agreed free time, waiting to be picked up. It accrues per container per day and rises over time. It is distinct from detention, which applies once the container has left the terminal.
