What is Transshipment?

Transferring cargo from one vessel to another at an intermediate hub en route.

Transshipment is the transfer of cargo from one vessel (or mode) to another at an intermediate port before it reaches its final destination. It lets carriers serve ports not on a direct route via hub ports such as Singapore or Rotterdam, but adds transit time and a small additional handling risk.
